Very nice atmospheric place with own history.
Close to the railway station whis is make this hotel different from other hotel.

The hotel was formerly the local railway station and has been converted and fitted out to a very high standard. We had a lovely room from which we could view the passing and stopping trains on one side and a very nice grassy area with seats on the other. The young lady in charge was incredibly helpful, and even acquired gluten free bread for us at breakfast each day. We liked the hotel so much that we extended our stay from one day to three, and loved every minute of it. The nearby towns of Osnabrück and Rheine are easily accessible by car, or even more easily by local train from station platform alongside the rooms. Clearly there us train noise but anyone who likes trains will love it. The restaurant wasn't open during our visit, but the breakfast was first class. This hotel is an altogether unique experience and we would give it our highest recommendation.

I've just spent 4 gorgeous days and nights at the Xtra Gleis in Horstel. There's new management just in and they pulled out all the stops. The rooms were spotless and the restaurant was fabulous. The staff were all German but they spoke good English, and they were friendly and helpful. This place comes highly recommended, even the trains that whiz past at all times of the day and night merely added to the atmosphere.

We have stayed at the Xtra Gleis on a number of occasions and each year it gets better and better and after being stranded there last year because of the ash cloud I did not think the service could be improved in any way; how wrong I was, now under the new management of Niels Corsten and his chef/partner Joao the hotel is even better. From the moment you arrive you are made to feel welcome by this likeable and very experienced hotel manager. The bedrooms are well decorated and furnished and exceptionally clean as are the restaurant and other public areas but I have left the best until last, the food. Breakfast is buffet style with a wide selection ranging through fresh fruit salad, boiled eggs, various cheeses and hams with fresh baked rolls plus the usual preserves, etc. Dinner in the restaurant is exceptionally good, they have introduced a new menu with a range of traditional German and international dishes to suit most peoples tastes and if you are not sure of what you want Joao will always come from the kitchen to offer his advice. Even better they are going to convert the beer cellar into a Tapas Bar.||All in all a great place to stay and one to where I will certainly return.

This is a small, friendly family hotel with an excellent breakfast buffet. Rooms are on the small side, but comfortable enough. The hotel is the old railway station building (although renovated beyond recognition), with the station itself still being used by local trains to Rheine, Osnabrück, Bielefeld and even Hengelo (NL). Some excellent walking and cycling routes can be found in the vicinity; the Hermannsweg passes at about 1.5 kilometres.

Booked this hotel on a trip back from Sweden. The principle reason for booking it was because it had a restaurant and WIFI. Said we'd arrive between 8 and 9 on the booking and was called at 8.25 to see if we were still coming. Arrived at 8.40pm to find the restaurant closed despite website saying it was open til 10. Manager said a delivery service was available but didn't have menu or telephone number. I was now getting a bit grumpy having just driven for 10 hours! Checked into room to find I pad, Kindle and Samsung phone couldn't connect to WIFI. Went to ask manager why and was shown that his phone did connect but he was locking up and going home. Not the meal I wanted but we did find a decent kebab house in the town. Maybe I felt negative towards the attitude because I was tired but the room was really nice with comfortable beds, very clean, great shower and good breakfast. Would certainly stay again but would check to see if restaurant is open first.

Restaurant really good but localisation of the hotel as a railway station it's not a good Idea. The whole building shakes when the Train passing it with full speed.
